Kazakhstan cement market: general results 2012

According to the estimates of the international cement holding UnitedCementGroup the volume of Kazakhstan cement market comprised 7.05 million tons in 2012.
Comparing to 2011 the market grew by 13% or 0.7 million tons. The market growth mainly stems from growth of the cement volume produced through “dry” method. Currently there are two plants on the market on Kazakhstan producing “dry” cement: Zhambylcement and Standardcement. Kazakhcement dry cement plant was commissioned in the end of 2012. Other plants (Semey Cement Plant, Bukhtarma plant, Sas-Tyube and Shymkentcement) produce cement through “wet” method of production. Apart from the mentioned plants Karaganda region has a plant with both dry and wet methods of production.
The Kazakhstan market is mostly provided with cement by internal producers: the import share comprised 0.9 million ton of cement or 13% of total consumption in 2012. In 2012 2/3 of import was Russian cement, about 30% of imported cement came from Uzbekistan. In 2012 the largest importer of cement in Kazakhstan was Novotroitsk cement plant, member of UCG Holding.
Summarizing the results of 2012, about 90% of consumption fall within the Southern Kazakhstan (Taraz, Shymkent and Kyzylorda), EKR, WKR and the capital cities. At that southern cities of Kazakhstan consumed about one third of the whole cement. Consumption increased by 24% in these cities comparing to the last year. Raise in consumption is mostly connected with construction of a highway Western Europe - Western China.
